A Glance at Kyoto University 

Kyoto University originally had the name Kyoto Imperial University. The university was founded on June 18, 1897. This establishment was based on the Emperor's rule. Furthermore, Kyoto University is the second university established in Japan. Moreover, initials at this university included the College of Science and Engineering, Law, Medicine, and Literature.

The period before and during the world war was a difficult time for the university, but it was able to survive. Moreover, in March 1947, the law officially opened on this campus and provided a breath of fresh air. Furthermore, over time, the university added more majors and classes. As of 2017, the campus has 10 buildings, 18 graduate schools, etc.

Kyoto University Ranking

As the second university in Japan, the university has gone through a lot in terms of educational development. Furthermore, it ranked 36th on the QS World University Rankings 2022. Moreover, the university has consistently placed in the top 50 best universities in the world.

Kyoto University Master Program

Aside from its extraordinary bachelor's program, Kyoto University also has a great graduate school for those of you who want to pursue further education. Here are some of the 14 great graduate schools of Kyoto University:

Graduate School of Letters

Since its founding, the Graduate School of Letters has been a leading academic hub for the arts and humanities. Furthermore, for education and research, the graduate school has collaborated closely with the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies, the Institute for Research in Humanities, and other divisions of the institution.

Graduate School of Law

The Graduate School of Law has been at the center of political science, law education, and research in Japan for more than a century. Currently, the school is made up of 60 professors and 13 associate professors. 

Graduate School of Agriculture

The Graduate School of Agriculture places a strong emphasis on finding solutions to the various problems that humanity faces to promote the peaceful coexistence of the global community. Furthermore, as master's graduates, your options for employment include the manufacturing industry, government service, academia, and telecommunications.

Kyoto University Scholarship:

Though there are a lot of scholarships that you can get as an Indonesian student, the Japanese government also provides international students with some amazing scholarships. One of those scholarships is:

Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships

The first Kyoto University scholarship is the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship, which is funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. This scholarship is available for international students who are:

  • Pursuing their undergraduate studies 
  • Research students (graduate-degree students and non-degree students)

To be eligible for the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

Undergraduate Students

  • At least 17 and under 24 years of age 
  • Have graduated, or expect to graduate, from a secondary school or equivalent

Research Students

  • Under 34 years of age 
  • Have graduated, or expect to graduate, from an undergraduate or higher degree program

What does the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship cover?

Undergraduate Students

  • Monthly stipend of 117,000 Yen
  • Full coverage of tuition fees (including examination and admission fees)
  • One round-trip ticket

Research Students

  • Monthly stipend of 143,000 Yen for non-degree students and 144,000 Yen for master's and professional degree students
  • Full coverage of tuition fees (including examination and admission fees)
  • One round-trip ticket

The application period for undergraduate students is April to May and late December to January for research students.
