The old-school approach of learning facts and memorizing them is no longer sufficient for preparing students who wants to seek more. In developing both essential and 21st-century skills (such as problem-solving, project management, research), starting a student project can be a good place to start. In the spirit of student projects, check out Abian's Solar-powered Automatic Dog Feeder project!
Abian Susatyo - Grade 11
Project Type: Seed Project (0-3 months)
Abian Susatyo, who has traveled around the world, has noticed the same problem in every place: numerous stray dogs roaming the streets. Stray dogs, like any other living animals, needed just as much food and drink to survive.
Being an animal lover himself, Abian thought of a solution to make it more convenient for people who feed stray dogs. As a gesture of his gratitude, he came up with Solar-powered Automatic Dog Feeder for ALL-in's student project. Abian, who aspires to be a mechanical engineer, collaborated with his mentor Nicholas to create an automatic dog feeder that dispenses food at an adjustable period of time.
In the span of three months, Abian has been working on his automatic dog feeder in his school's workshop. What started with watching YouTube videos on DIY dog feeders has progressed into the prototyping stage. Abian has gone through his third prototype.
For the past few weeks, Abian has been researching the circuit aspect of his automatic dog feeder. Currently, he is creating some adjustments on the dispenser component of his automatic dog feeder prototype to make it compatible with the Arduino circuit.
This is what Abian's project looks like right now:
Even after Abian has only finished his first prototype, he has expressed optimism with his plan on starting a crowdfunding initiative for his project. In addition, he plans to tackle any stray animal problems by working together with animal welfare organizations.
Abian's Solar-powered Automatic Dog Feeder project is the winner of ALL-IN BEST PROJECT OF THE MONTH for December 2021 in the category of Seed Project!
Now let's hear what our judge, Eviana Misty (ALL-in mentor), says about Abian's creative project:
“The vision and mission are already clear and specific. There is a clear problem that he really wants to try to solve: how to feed stray dogs effectively. Although the project has just been started, it is not just a mere idea. It has started to be developed & there has been progress on the prototype even in just a short time!”
