How to Apply
Before applying to the Yale University master program, you will need to complete your undergraduate degree or have completed it before enrolling in Yale. You will need to pay a $105 application fee for your application. You must submit the following documents in order to complete your application:
- A statement of academic purpose
- A list of all the prior colleges or universities you have attended, accompanied by unofficial transcripts from each school
- 3 letters of recommendation
- Graduate Record Examination scores (if applicable)
- TOEFL or IELTS scores
- Resume/CV
- Writing sample (if applicable)
When it comes to the statement of academic purpose, here are the prompts:
For all applicants (except those applying to Biological and Biomedical Sciences)
Please upload a statement of 500–1,000 words explaining why you are applying to Yale for graduate study. Furthermore, describe your research interests and preparation for your intended field(s) of study, including prior research and other relevant experiences. Explain how the faculty, research, and resources at Yale would contribute to your future goals.
For applicants to Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) only:
Your statement of purpose will aid the admissions committee in evaluating your application. Succinctly respond in 500-1000 words. Furthermore, please discuss your motivation for conducting research, provide a detailed summary of your research experience and how it prepares you for doctoral study, and include how you have taken initiative on a research project, academic endeavor, or employment responsibility. Finally, please describe your career goals.
You may only apply to one department or program per year. However, some schools allow you to submit a single application to apply as a combined degree applicant. Furthermore, African American studies, film and media studies, or women's, gender, and sexuality studies fall under this category.
