In addition to its top-notch schools, Yale has twelve residential colleges, each with its own activities, dining hall, and exclusive seminars. Branford, Silliman, Davenport, and Saybrook Colleges are the most popular residential colleges.

In total, Yale is made up of 14,525 students, with a 22% international student enrollment. In addition to being affiliated with 65 Nobel laureates, Yale has produced many notable alumni across multiple disciplines, such as Meryl Streep, Supreme Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and William Boeing.

Applying to Yale University

As one of the most prestigious schools in the United States, Yale is known for its extremely low acceptance rate. Moreover, in the latest undergraduate admissions cycle, only 2,234 students were accepted into Yale's class of 2026, with 1,434 coming from the regular admissions round. The table below shows Yale's most recent statistics on undergraduate admissions:

There are three options for students to apply to Yale, which includes the QuestBridge National College Match application, the Coalition Application, and the Common Application. For all these platforms, the application deadlines are the same:

  • Single-Choice Early Action - November 1st
  • QuestBridge National College Match - November 1st 
  • Regular decision - January 2nd

Admissions decisions for Single-Choice Early Action will come out in mid-December. As for Regular Decision, admissions decisions will come out on April 1. The deadline to reply to an offer of admission is May 1 for both Early Action and Regular Decision applicants.

You are required to pay a non-refundable $80 fee for your Yale application. In addition to your application, you will also need to submit several documents for the Yale Supplement, including:

  • Recommendation letters from two teachers and one counselor
  • High School Report 
  • Mid-Year Report
  • Test results for the SAT or ACT (optional)

The two teachers who provide recommendations for a student must have taught you in a core academic subject, including:

  • English
  • Foreign Language
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
