The founding of King's College in 1754 by the royal charter of George II of Great Britain marked the beginning of Columbia. Later, in 1784, it adopted the name Columbia College. Since then, Columbia has grown into a highly prestigious university.
Currently, there are three undergraduate schools in Columbia, which includes The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia College, and the School of General Studies.
