Studying in Korea has become one of the biggest dreams of many international students. However, it may be unaffordable for some to study there without financial support. A Seoul National University scholarship might be the answer in this case. Not only will a scholarship offer you financial support, but receiving a  scholarship can also help you boost your CV for further studies and career. Let's look at some of the best Seoul National University Scholarships below!

Global Korea Scholarship

The first Seoul National University scholarship is the Global Korea Scholarship. Furthermore, this scholarship is one of the best scholarships that you can try applying for in Korea. Moreover, the higher educational institutions in the Republic of Korea offer opportunities for students who want to pursue further education in undergraduate and graduate degrees. Also, this scholarship program is available for 220 undergraduates and 1,080 graduate students (subject to change depending on budget). 

Benefits 

The selected scholars will receive the following benefits: 

  • Fully-funded scholarship (up to KRW* 5,000,000 per semester).
  • Airfare expenses
  • Resettlement Allowance (up to KRW* 20,000).
  • Monthly living allowances of KRW* 350,000.
  • Medical Insurance (free National Health Insurance).
  • KRW* 100,000 awards to be given to students after degree completion.

*KRW - South Korean Won

Qualifications

To be eligible for the scholarship, you need to fulfill one of the requirements below:

  • Both the applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of their country of origin.
  • Applicants should not hold Korean citizenship
  • Applicants should have adequate health, both mentally and physically, to stay in a foreign country for a long time
  • Under 25 years of age at the date of entrance (Undergraduate)
  • Under 40 years of age at the date of entrance (Graduate)
  • Have finished or be scheduled to finish formal education of all elementary, middle, and high school courses by the date of arrival. (Undergraduate)
  • Possess a grade point average (G.P.A.) above 80% from the last educational institution attended
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree by the date of arrival. (Graduate).
  • Applicants who have previously been accepted in any undergraduate program, master's program, or doctoral program in Korea cannot apply for this program

However, a former or current KGSP scholar who holds an overall grade of 90% or above and has attained TOPIK level 5 or higher can reapply once to this program either through the embassy or university track.

Support Program for Self-Financed Students

To raise awareness of the benefits of studying in Korea, the government has subsidized self-supporting students to study in Korea. Moreover, with this scholarship, all self-supporting students will have the chance to get financial support to study in Korea. Also, the support period is 10 months and will be available for approximately 250 students.

Benefits:

  • Living expenses: KRW 500,000 per month (Maximum KRW 5,000,000)

Korean Government Support Program for Foreign Exchange Students

The Korean Government Support Program aims to provide meaningful experiences for any international exchange students regarding Korean culture and education. Furthermore, this scholarship will be available for approximately 200 foreign students for four months.

Benefits:

  • Living expenses of KRW 500,000 per month.
  • Settlement allowance of KRW 200,000 on arrival.
  • Reimbursement within a set amount for round-trip airfare.
  • Medical insurance of KRW 20,000 per month (paid by each university).

Qualifications

To be eligible for the scholarship, you need to fulfill one of the requirements below:

  • Undergraduate students of the overseas universities that are partner universities of GKS for Foreign Exchange Students Programs selected universities (Master's degrees candidates who are from the strategic cooperative partnership countries are welcome to apply).
    • Those who have already benefited from a 4-month (one-term) scholarship cannot extend or renew their terms.
  • Must possess a GPA of above 80% (out of 100%).
    • Completed at least two semesters.
  • Must register for regular courses (language courses are not considered regular courses).
  • Applicant must not have been sponsored by the Korean government.
  • Must hold foreign citizenship (dual citizenship holders—those holding both Korean citizenship and another nationality--cannot apply).
  • Applicant must choose only one university.
  • Must take a Korean language or culture class (at least one class/ two credits).

There are a variety of Seoul National University Scholarships available for you. Some of these universities offer you full tuition coverage. On the other hand, some offer a great opportunity to have a taste of studying in Korea.
