Creating a student project may require maximum concentration and thoughtful decisions. However, it could be a powerful teaching method for students. Student projects allow students to receive hands-on learning while building life skills such as critical thinking, self-confidence, and in-depth understanding. Speaking of student projects, let's discover Rayden's project of building Filtro!
Ignacio Rayden Yap - Grade 9
Project Type: Unicorn ( 9-month ++)
The start of the pandemic was faced with several problems. Sanitary kits were limited, masks were in short supply and irresponsible actors went on a hoarding streak. As a result, many couldn't afford sanitary supplies, particularly those who lost their jobs.
Rayden saw this problem, and decided to tackle any COVID-19-related problems by building his own company, Filtro. He has a vision on reducing the environmental damage of single-use masks while promoting a safer and healthier Indonesia.
Filtro is a business that produces and sells artisanal masks to Indonesian youth who are conscious of sourcing, production, and environmental sustainability. Their sustainably-produced masks are not only WHO-verified safe, but also use eco-friendly materials sourced from local stores.
With a mission to give back to the community, 70% of Filtro's monthly goes to funding sanitary kits to donate. Filtro's sanitary kits include items like hand-painted masks, toothpaste, soap, and a bottle of hand sanitizer. Across Jakarta, Filtro has donated 50 to 100 sanitary kits monthly. Not just that, Filtro has also collaborated with other organizations for said donations, increasing them to 200 sanitary kits. In addition, Filtro has been working on the creation of sanitary stations to orphanages like Komunitas Anak Ceria.
For the past year, Filtro has faced impressive feats. Within the first 6 months, Filtro has partnered up with several charity organizations. Not just that, they have also collaborated with international schools, academic competitions, and donation initiatives. For instance, Filtro acted as a supplier for National High Jakarta School's 'English Week' annual event. In addition, Filtro was invited as a collaborator in EduSummit 2021. It is a Model UN conference that involved the collaboration with other organizations as media partners.
Although Filtro is now on a hiatus on their social media page, their sales have not been affected.
Rayden is currently focusing on UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 6. These goals are directly correlated to Filtro's prime mission, COVID-19-impact relief. After coming in second in the Ascend Now Bullpen, Rayden is fueling Filtro's growth phase through the seed fund. He is now developing new merchandise and implementing new donation initiatives.
Rayden is planning on hosting webinars and seminars on educating the pressing conditions the community in Jakarta is facing. He thought of giving solutions to these issues while establishing Filtro's presence.
Rayden's student project of Filtro is the winner of ALL-IN BEST PROJECT OF THE MONTH for December 2021 in the category of Unicorn Project!
Now let's hear what our judge, Eviana Misty (ALL-in mentor), says about Rayden's influential project:
“The project relates to the problem we are currently facing, Covid-19 and global warming. It already runs and proven to give a great impact with the ability to donate 200 sanitary kits from the sales. This project also has received many achievements including winning a competition and getting $1,000 investment. Way to go!”
